Rev. Mychal Ellis

Howdy, I’m Rev. Mychal Ellis, and I am so grateful you'd like to know more about HUMC! It’s a true honor to join this spirit-filled and faithful community, and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us in this next season. I grew up in Dublin, Ohio, but I moved south as quickly as possible. I earned my B.S. in Psychology from the University of Houston (Go Coogs!), and my Master of Divinity from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. I’ve served on staff at Sandy Springs UMC, with the Center for Congregational Excellence at the North Georgia Conference, and at A&M UMC in College Station, TX. I was commissioned as a provisional Elder in June 2024 and appointed as the Associate Pastor at West Point First UMC, which brought me back to Georgia. I am grateful to now serve as the Pastor at Hiawassee UMC!

When I’m not at church, you can find me enjoying all things Disney, savoring a good cup of coffee, cheering for college football (Gig ’em Ags!), reading, sharing meals with friends, or out exploring nature. I’m passionate about what God is doing in the world and love helping people connect—with God, with one another, and with their communities. I hope together, we’ll keep growing in Christ and serving as the hands and feet of Jesus in our church, our town, and beyond.

Our Beliefs

God loves all people and invites us into a relationship with Him through Jesus, offering forgiveness, hope, and new life.

The Holy Spirit guides, strengthens, and equips us to live faithfully, serve others, and grow as disciples of Christ.

We are called to love God, love our neighbors, and make a difference in our community through worship, service, and generosity.
