Pastor Sam Hamby was appointed to Hiawassee United Methodist Church in June of 2012. He leads with a heart for missions and outreach ministries as well as a passion for marriage and family ministries.
Pastor Sam answered a call to full-time Christian ministry following his senior year of college in 1999. He and his wife, Laura, have been married for 16 years and have seven young children; Ashlyn, Aaron, Aiden, Anna, Avery, Amelia and Adleigh Mae.
Pastor Sam is a graduate of Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Georgia with a B.S. Degree in Psychology. He also received his Master of Divinity Degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky.
Pastor Sam’s desire for ministry is to help individuals and families make a decision for Jesus Christ to be Lord of their lives. He especially desires to help families become equipped to “train up their children in the ways of the Lord”. Pastor Sam has a deep interest and commitment to promoting sound Biblical authority and integrity. He also carries an interest in Creation Science and Apologetics. Our pastor also served with the North Georgia Walk of Emmaus community over the past 9 years. He shares a passion for the United Methodist Church’s mission to “go and make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world,” and leads our congregation to live out this mission.

Betty Cooper, Administrative Assistant, has been with Hiawassee United Methodist Church since September, 2015. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, she retired from PNC Bank. She and her late husband moved to Hiawassee in 2002. She is an Associate of the Congregation of Notre Dame, mother of 3 sons and grandmother of 4.
